Portfolio Weekend

March 2 – 4, 2018
Camden, Maine

The most important step in being a photographer is to make photographs! The next step for most of us is to share our work and get feedback. We gain perspective, helping us to see more clearly, stretch further and better express our ideas.

Ninth Annual Photographers’ Retreat

April 27 – 29, 2018
Johnstown Holiday Inn, Johnstown NY
All Photographers Welcome!
No registration fee to attend the retreat.
Participants are responsible for transportation, food and lodging.

What is the Photographers’ Retreat? It is an opportunity for photographers to meet together over an unstructured weekend to talk with people who speak the same language, share work, take photographs and make new friends. How does it differ from a workshop or conference? There are no agendas, lectures or classroom teachers. At this retreat we all get to be students and we can all be teachers. This is an informal gathering and you may attend all or part of the weekend. There is no registration charge.

Canyons, Waterfalls & Spring In The Park

April 29 – May 4, 2018
Letchworth State Park, NY
Class Size: 10
Tuition: $1725

This new location workshop is focused on Letchworth State Park in western New York. The readers of USA Today voted it the best State Park in the United States! Called the Grand Canyon of the East it is filled with trails, ponds, waterfalls and the canyon formed by the Genesee River on its northward journey. The western side of the gorge is a manicured landscape and maintains much of the feeling created by the work of the Civilian Conservation Corp of the 1930’s. It has 22 hiking trails ranging in length from 1/4 to 7+ miles on both sides of the gorge. The three largest waterfalls are accessible by short walks. The park runs north to south so the gorge should have wonderful light in both mornings and afternoons.

Spirit Of Structure: Peters Valley School Of Craft

June 22 – 26, 2018
Layton, NJ
Registration through Peters Valley School of Craft

In this class we will photograph the buildings and landscape of the Delaware Water Gap Federal Recreation Area. Focusing primarily on the historic buildings at Peters Valley (once the farming village of Bevans) we will also make side trips to some of the preserved and restored historically significant buildings such as Van Campen’s Inn and Millbrook Village. There are also many abandoned farm buildings in disrepair that we may be able to photograph from the exterior. The wonderful thing about buildings constructed or designed during the late 19th to early 20th centuries is the use of windows to provide interior light. Watching this light play across the spaces will help us to photograph our experience of what exists today.
