Taken over four decades, these photographs explore long-committed relationships, the passage of time and enduring family connections. Nicholas Nixon: Family Album, on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) through May 1, 2011, features more than 70 blackand- white portraits by one of the most celebrated American photographers of his generation.

David Burnett: What Could Be Better Than This?

Making an appointment with a photojournalist is a challenge. David Burnett never knows where his next job will take him or when he will depart. This has been the life of one of America’s most accomplished photojournalists for over 40 years. His portfolio reads like a history book — the Vietnam War, the revolutions in Chile and Iran, the fall of the Berlin Wall. He has photographed presidential campaigns since the 1970s and all of the presidents from Kennedy to Obama.

Food: nourishing, fun, vital. We are all consumers of this necessity of life. We see the tempting images all around us on billboards, on the store shelves, in magazines and on the menus we order from at our favorite eatery. As photographers, we also can see beauty in the interaction between light and a superbly prepared and styled entrée. Visually communicating and creating the desire is what the professional food photographer does.
